INTRODUCTION

In a world that is rapidly changing, it is crucial for the African child to be guided by wisdom, resilience, and a sense of responsibility from an early age. This poetry collection, "Rise up my child," is dedicated to the growth and development of the African child, offering a roadmap for shaping a generation of visionary leaders who will steer our continent into a brighter future.

Through each carefully crafted poem, I speak directly to the minds of children—from the basic school to university level—encouraging them to think critically, act with purpose, and embrace values that will serve them throughout their lives. The poems are written not only to inspire, but also to provoke thought, urging children to question the world around them and understand the power they hold within themselves to make meaningful changes.

In these verses, the African child will learn the importance of cultivating courage, embracing education, valuing culture, and understanding the impact of their decisions on society. The poems address the need for self-discipline, respect, and the rejection of negative influences, while fostering a mindset that is focused on innovation, justice, and compassion. By starting this journey of self-discovery at a young age, they will develop the skills and mindsets needed to become strong, ethical, and servant-leaders.

“Rise up my child” is more than just a collection of words—it is a guide for nurturing the leaders of tomorrow, with the firm belief that the greatness of Africa lies within the hearts and minds of its children. These poems will inspire a generation that can rise above challenges, innovate solutions, and lead with integrity. As they read, reflect, and grow, this collection will empower them to build a future that is brighter, stronger, and filled with hope.

May these poems serve as a light for every African child, helping them to realize their potential and understand the immense value they bring to the world.

I PLEDGE

When I grow to lead one day,
I will walk a righteous way,
Not for riches, and not for fame,
But to honour Africa's name.

I won’t turn my back or take,
From the weak, to break their hearts,
With integrity as my guide,
In truth and justice, I’ll lead.

I’ll stand with true men and women,
God-fearing souls in all I do,
Africa's wealth is not for me only,

RISING STARS AND UNBREAKABLE SPIRITS

Little stars, shining bright,
In the sky, with all your might,
Every dream you dare to chase,
Can be reached in time and space.

With tiny steps, you learn to grow,
There’s no limit to what you know,
Your heart is strong, your mind is true,
There’s nothing, nothing you can’t do!

Fly high and spread your wings,
You’re a child who can do great things,
Unbreakable spirit, you’re bold and free,

THE ROOT OF GREATNESS

Before you took your first small breath,
Before your eyes had seen the earth,
In you was planted, deep and true,
A seed of greatness that grew with you.

You were a dream the stars foretold,
A treasure born from hearts so bold,
In your veins, the rivers flow,
Of kings and queens you'll come to know.

Greatness isn't what you find,
It's in your soul, your heart, and your mind,
Even before you saw the light,
You were destined to shine like the sun.

Walk with pride, young one, and see,
Greatness is your destiny,
It’s not what you will one day become,

THE DREAM IN MY HEART

In my heart, I hold a dream,
Like a river’s steady stream,
Step by step, I’ll climb so high,
Touch the stars up in the sky.

With hard work and never rest,
I’ll become my very best,
Each new day, I’ll learn and grow,
For my dreams will help me glow.

I’ll keep my hopes in sight,
Work with all my strength and might,
For dreams come true when we believe,

BEYOND THE HORIZON

Beyond the horizon, high and wide,
There's a place where dreams can glide,
The stars above, so far away,
Can be reached by you someday.

With hands that build and a mind so bright,
You can craft a rocket to take flight,
From the soil of Africa’s land so vast,
You’ll soar beyond the skies so fast.

The world will see, the world will know,
From where you came, how far you'll go,
For in your heart and in your hands,
Lies the power to shape new lands.

So dream of space, and work with pride,
The stars will be your guiding light,
You’ll travel far, and they will see,

WINGS OF POSSIBILITY

With wings of hope, I start to fly,
Up to the clouds, beyond the sky,
For deep inside, I know it’s true,
There’s nothing in this world I can’t do.

If I believe, if I just try,
I’ll touch the stars, I’ll soar so high,
No dream's too big, no goal too far,
With faith, I’ll shine just like a star.

Through every challenge, I will grow,
With every step, my strength will show,
For in my heart, I hold the key,
To unlock every possibility.

So, I’ll believe with all my might,

For echoes of tomorrow will surely stay,

A way to keep your future right.

Remember now, as you grow strong,
Hygiene helps you all day long,
For in each wash and every scrub,
You show the world your care and love.

Clean and bright, you'll always be,
With shades of strength for all to see,
So keep it up, each new day,

DANGEROUS FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

In the sand, where footprints lie,
Some paths are safe, and some go awry,
Beware of tracks that lead astray,
For dangerous steps can lead you away.

When others choose a path that’s wrong,
Don’t follow blindly, don’t go along,
Their footsteps may look tempting and grand,
But they can lead to trouble, or a sinking sand.

You have a choice, so make it wise,
Seek the good, and reach for the skies,
Create your own path, steady and true,
For good choices will guide you through.

Don’t copy the footprints of those who stray,
But forge your own in a brighter way,
For dangerous paths can have a bad end,

DANCING IN THE RAIN

When skies are gray and storms roll in,
Don’t hide your troubles deep within,
Life’s like the rain, it comes and goes,
But sharing helps the sunshine show.

Don’t keep your worries locked away,
Tell those who love you every day,
Your parents, teachers—they are near,
To help you through, to calm your fear.

Just like the rain, you’ll dance again,
When you let others ease your pain,
A burden shared is light and small,
Together, you’ll rise above it all.

When the rain clouds fill your skies,
Speak up, don’t hide behind disguise,
In every storm, there’s love and care,

There’s a light inside of me,
A special spark, for all to see,
It shines so bright, it’s all my own,
A gift of talent I’ve been shown.

My talent grows with each new day.

For it’s a treasure I must show,
With every step, I’ll give my best,
For this light inside will lead the rest.

With courage, every battle’s fought.

The wonders of technology.

With every tool, and every hand,
We build and shape, we craft the land,
Industrial dreams, we bring to life,
Through skill, hard work, and little strife.

Learn the ways that build and grow,
For through your hands, the future flows,
Agriculture, science, and skills so bright,

The future’s a book with clean pages,
Full of wonders yet unseen,
There’s so much more you’ve yet to find,

To the things you’re eager to explore.

No one knows it all from the start,

Stones of wisdom line your path,

Like a river, time won’t wait,
So build your dreams before it's late,
With each stone, plant seeds and grow,
For in good time, the harvest shows.

Use your time from morning to night,
In every hour, work and play,

So take a thought, shape it, explore—

The colour of my dreams is bright,
Different shades in every light,
I’m unique, no one like me,

We all have gifts, we all have light,
Some bloom in day, some bloom at night,

I’ve got courage in my bones,

No bad moment stays for long,
